Fall Collection gets 5 Stars on Raves.com
Another great review of "The Fall Collection"
ovum review (HOUSE) Title: Ovum Records - The Fall Collection
Label: Ovum Records
Release date: October 18th, 2004
AN EXCEPTIONAL MIX OF INCREDIBLE TRACKS BY AN EXTRAORDIANRY AMERICAN ASSET
Josh Wink, the Philadelphia-based disc jockey and purveyor of everything "techno and tweaked", co-founded Ovum Recordings in Philadelphia with King Britt 10 year ago.
'The Fall Collection', the label's first compilation since 97's 'Ovum Sampler', is a comprehensive round-up of the last ten years, as well as being a statement unto itself in celebration of Ovum's longstanding commitment to perfection, grace, and sophistication on the dancefloor.
The label has been an electronic music pioneer for more than a decade, and (along with other notable labels such as Tommy Boy, OM, Moonshine, and Strictly Rhythm) has helped put the US on the worldwide dance music map with style and ease...............BUT IN HALF THE TIME!
>From the smoothed-out bliss of "Elu On Mi Uiu" by Rulers of the Deep, which kicks things off, straight through the tweaky old-school madness of "Acid Tricks" by D'julz, The Fall Collection is an excellent, continually-mixed, non-stop reminder to all of the sheer power that these sometimes-overlooked tracks still hold.
House anthem "Sixth Sense", featuring vocal temptress Ursula Rucker teasing with the soulful jazziness of xylophones and drums, is rightfully represented, as well as David Alvarado's tribal explosion known as "Klugh". "What's the Message?" by Mirage expertly fills a sonic gap with its mystic, Middle-Eastern underbelly, while "Perfect Love" by DJ Stryke adds the perfect ambient outro to the entire project.
With the addition of "My House" by Aaron Carl, "The Ritual" by DJ Dozia, and "Hand in Hand" by Yann Fontaine, quite simply, The Fall Collection becomes, and remains, an esoteric electronic masterpiece of House music at its finest.
